The work of re-erecting the boundary stones, which
were to be set in concrete, was set in hand at once. After the inspection a lunch party was held at Island House, Taipo, the residence of the District Officer, New Territories, where friendly speeches were made and toasts were drunk to the President of the Republic of China and His Majesty the King.

The atmosphere throughout was most cordial, and the Chinese representatives, in particular General Hsu, were efficient and cooperative. The occasion offered a useful opportunity for officers of this Government to meet Kwangtung officials, including the Magistrate of Po On, regarding whose activities in the Kowloon City matter I have already addressed you. The impression gained
is that he is not himself of a hostile or anti-British disposition.

In agreement with Dr. T.V. Soong the replacement of the boundary stones at Shataukok has been announced to the press as being connected with anti-smuggling matters. It is indeed satisfactory that these stones have at last been replaced, since it removes one more possible cause of misunderstanding and friction.
